INQUIRING MINDS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW - FAVORITE TEE SHIRT PATTERNS....

... just wondering about tee shirt patterns.
There's been lots of talk about these two Independent patterns:
Sewaholic Renfew
Grainline Lark Tee
Or maybe a pattern from one of the Big 4.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TEE SHIRT PATTERN?., OR DO YOU EVEN BOTHER MAKING THEM?

  1. I make tee shirts since my narrow shoulders and 36 F bust really looks better in custom tees. I have been using two lately, the Cashmerette Concord after a lot of changes works pretty well, but not in 2 way stretch since I had to add length to the front to keep the front from hiking. Even though it supposedly fits a size F. My other is Vogue 8151 that I've altered to make lots of different tops including a nightgown and cardigans. I like the dart in this one and I've moved it around.

    1. That is good to know Nancy. I'll need to check out Vogue 8151. Thanks a bunch!

  2. I have narrow shoulders and large hips. I use Christine Jonson's Base wear two for basis tees, but use all of her knit tops for tees. Her pattern fits me better than the 3 you have mentioned. I think I have made more than 50 of them in the last 15 years!

  3. I've made a handful of M6964 for both me and DD! Love the pattern!

  4. Jalie 2566! I kind of frankenpattern the sleeves a bit, but it's a solid basic. I can make one in about 45 minutes, if I'm motivated. Can't drive to the mall, find and try on a shirt, and drive home in that amount of time. AND...it comes in a bazillion sizes, so you can make one for just about any female in the family...

    1. Lisa that Jalie 2566 is a real cutie with all it's variations. It sounds like such a useful pattern too. 45 minutes - amazing!

  5. I use a basic Kwik Sew pattern, but plan to make a few other brands as well. I don't use independents at all, I know what works for me in the Big 4.

    1. Sarah I am a real lover of some of the Indie patterns, and I love sooooo many of the Big 4 too. I've only made a few Kwik Sew patterns. Which do you use for your tee?

  6. I've made 5 Cashmerette Concord tees and a nightgown hack this year, works well for me after making some adjustments. I also quite like the Deer&Doe Plantain shirt, a free PDF pattern.

    1. Marianne I'm quite often silly enough to think that I can just make a pattern right out of the envelope - especially a simple tee. I might as well resolve that the majority of use have to make at least some adjustments even to the simple tee. I downloaded the Plantain shirt a long while ago and I really need to try it out. Thanks for the reminder!

  7. I've lost count on how many I've sewn, but my-go-to are New Look 6735 and modified Mccalls 6796.

  8. Yes, I do bother making them because once you have the fit that you like, they're so easy to make en masse, and they're a perfect canvas for creative sewing. I've made Jalie 2921 dozens of times, though only I think 3 times with the scarf collar. The other iterations have used the sleeve, front, and back for their fit and I've changed the neckline/sleeves/added fabric, taken it away, etc. etc. I love Jalie's fit on all their patterns. It's not even an exaggeration at this point that they're responsible for over half my closet. :) Which tee is your go-to, Faye?

    1. I haven't established a go-to tee pattern yet Elizabeth. I was just think about the fact that I definitely need one in my arsenal. I posed this question to see what others are using for their basic tees. You brought Jalie 2921 back to memory. I made that top "once" and really did like it. I remember trying the pattern just to see what that burritoish tie collar was all about and to see if I could actually make it. Thanks for the reminder! I make it and post it whenever I can get around to making it again.

    2. It's a great pattern as is. That burrito neck method is just really cool! After making it a couple times, I realized it's just a v-neck and the scarf collar is just a glorified binding. As such, you can easily make it into a regular v-neck by simply raising CF to your desired height and adding a binding the width that you like. And so the hacking begins...:) Good luck working on a TNT!

    3. That Jalie scarf collar top is just the neatest thing! I find myself drawn to designs like that, they peak my interest - just wanting to see if I can actually pull it off.

  9. I have a couple purchased probably 20 years ago. One is a McCalls, and I forget what the other is. I like to make tees/pullover tops so I can get exactly what I want. Plus, it's nice to be able to get exactly the color/fabric you want, and sometimes this "need" crops up at 10PM, and I'm set by midnight!

  11. Faye, I like Mccall's 6992, but I think of it as a pullover/sweatshirt top instead of a T-shirt!
